Sliema

Sliema is the spot chosen by many tourists as their place to stay while visiting Malta. This city dedicated to tourism is full of shopping centres, hotels and restaurants.

What can you expect from Sliema?

Located between Valletta and St. Julian's, Sliema is one of the most touristic cities in Malta. This is largely due to its sheer amount of hotels, restaurants and bars just metres from the beach. Even though historically Sliema was a small fishing village, it's now one of the most populated parts of the island.

Due to its closeness to the capital, many tourists look for accommodation in Sliema to be close to shopping centres and other leisure venues. One of the few negative points about Sliema is the lack of sandy beaches: although if you like stoney beaches, you'll find many of these in Sliema.

This city is a beautiful place to enjoy a relaxing stroll along the promenade and take in the beautiful views of Valletta.

Our advice

If you aren't staying in Sliema and want to discover other locations around the island, we recommend visiting other, more interesting spots beforehand, such as Valletta, Rabat, Mdina or Marsaxlokk.

Sliema is a great option if you want to do some shopping while in Malta, choose between its wide variety of restaurants or are searching for accommodation. However, we recognise that it does not have much to offer in terms of heritage and history.
